Energen Corporation Chooses Conceivium's MobileMonitor and MobileAnalyzer for BlackBerry

Now Energen can easily and comprehensively monitor and analyze key information and data from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server

McLean, VA - Conceivium Business Solutions, Inc. announced today that Energen Corporation has adopted MobileMonitor™ for BlackBerry Enterprise Server™ (MobileMonitor) and Mobile Analyzer™ for BlackBerry Enterprise Server (MobileAnalyzer) for their monitoring and analysis requirements. MobileMonitor gives corporations the ability to pro-actively monitor BlackBerry Enterprise Server, developed by Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM), while MobileAnalyzer provides additional detailed reports and assessments of captured BlackBerry Enterprise Server traffic and performance data.

Energen Corporation, a diversified energy company based in Alabama, has 450 BlackBerry® Wireless Handhelds™, including numerous field personnel who rely heavily upon their handhelds for critical daily business activities. According to Brad Anderson, Windows Systems Administrator, “We required a monitoring application that delivered detailed notifications through existing infrastructure and provided easy-to-use reporting tools. Since MobileMonitor allows us to integrate it with existing network monitoring solutions, we use our MOM 2005 installation alert schedule and alert groups to alarm our administrators of any potential issues within our BlackBerry deployment. All we had to do to was install MobileMonitor and configure which logs to monitor.”   This flow of BlackBerry specific events into network monitoring applications allows corporations to leverage their investment through the use of existing technology for complex escalation procedures and automation of recovery processes.

Energen reviewed various snmp based BlackBerry Enterprise Server monitoring tools, but quickly decided on MobileMonitor because of the ability to monitor specific events within the log files that cannot be identified using snmp monitoring tools. “I like that MobileMonitor takes the human error factor out of interpreting BlackBerry Enterprise Server logs.  The human eye can easily miss errors among other information,” states Brad Anderson.

MobileAnalyzer works in conjunction with MobileMonitor through the continuous analysis and cataloging of event, performance and user information retrieved from MobileMonitor.   MobileAnalyzer allows for the efficient and organized storage of detailed data for years which can be easily recalled and manipulated to create management and trending reports used to make important infrastructure decisions. “I like that I can trend the use of BlackBerry on our network,” says Anderson. “We look for extremes in high and low message/MDS usage.  This lets me know the extent to which BlackBerry is used.”

Furthermore, the detailed search and report features of MobileAnalyzer can be accessed by multiple stakeholders within the organization (ie. Helpdesk, IT Administrators, Accounting and Planning Departments) through the web enabled console.   “I like that business owners who keep track of the devices can run their own reports on device information.  Our automated dispatch system relies on SMS/PIN messages to dispatch calls to field service personnel. Our field service personnel have high attrition rates on their devices.  This high turn over creates issues when devices change, resulting in new PIN numbers,” states Anderson.    MobileAnalyzer manages this multi-user interface through a secure login account with privileges to access features and reports defined by the administrator.

“We are thrilled that Energen has decided upon our MobileMonitor and MobileAnalyzer solutions.   With the adoption of these two products, Energen is now using the full gamut of our solutions including MobileControl and MobileTerm for all of their infrastructure and organizational needs,” according to Jill A Gyllensvaan, President of Conceivium Business Solutions, Inc.

In addition to MobileMonitor and MobileAnalyzer, Conceivium makes the award winning MobileControl and MobileTerm Suite of remote network management tools. MobileControl is a network management application for the Windows infrastructure and is used with BlackBerry handhelds, as well as any browser-based handheld. MobileControl is also web-enabled for desktop support and integrates with most monitoring software so that network administrators can respond and deploy it for instantaneous resolution. Some of the key features of MobileControl are Active Directory Management, SQL Database Management, Cluster Management, WMI Management, VM Ware Management, Exchange Server Management, BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management, Citrix/Terminal Server Management, IIS Server Management, DNS Server Management, SNMP-enabled device Management, Network management tools, web-enabled administrative preferences and features and customizable menu options.

The MobileTerm Suite is used specifically with   BlackBerry handhelds and BlackBerry Enterprise Server and features MobileTelnet/SSH which allows for access and management of UNIX/Linux servers, routers and switches, as well as Mobile5250 and Mobile3270 which allow for AS400 and Mainframe systems access, respectively.
